The Liberty County Chamber of Commerce announces a Groundhog Job Shadow Day, taking place on Monday, February 2, an initiative designed to connect local employers with high school students for a meaningful, one-day career exploration experience.
Groundhog Job Shadow Day allows 11th and 12th grade students to spend the day observing professionals in real workplace settings, gaining firsthand insight into career paths, job responsibilities, and the skills needed for future success.
Students will report to their assigned worksite from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., provide their own transportation, and wear an official lanyard for identification.
“Groundhog Job Shadow Day gives our students the opportunity to see what’s possible for their future while learning directly from the professionals who make our community strong,” said Leah Poole, president and CEO. “By partnering with local employers, we are helping students connect classroom learning to real careers and building a stronger workforce for Liberty County.”
Local employers from a wide range of industries are invited to participate by hosting a student for the day. By taking part, employers help strengthen the future workforce, build connections with local schools, and inspire students to explore career opportunities within their community.
Student placements will be made based on survey responses, employer availability, and program capacity. Employers are asked to provide lunch for participating students and ensure a safe, supervised learning environment.
Groundhog Job Shadow Day is part of a broader career-connected learning effort in Liberty County aimed at preparing students for post-secondary success and workforce readiness. This day is made possible thanks to a generous grant from Howmet Aerospace.
