Flemington, Midway mayor races to be contested

Qualifying for this fall’s municipal elections is underway in Midway and Flemington.

In Flemington, incumbent Paul Hawkins and challenger Tim Byler have qualified to run for mayor. Byler is the current chairman of the Liberty Consolidated Planning Commission.

Incumbent city council members David Edwards, Larry Logan, Renee Harwell and Hasit Patel have qualified, as of Wednesday afternoon, to run again for their seats.

Midway City Council members Malcolm Williams and Stanley Brown have qualified to run for mayor, and incumbent Henry O. Stevens Jr. and Terrie S. Sherrod and Annie L. Foskey have qualified to run for city council.

Qualifying will run through Friday, August 22, and end at 4:30 p.m. that day. Qualifying will be done at the Midway City Hall, 41 Charlie Butler Blvd.

Qualifying for the Flemington municipal election will be held through Friday, August 22, at Flemington City Hall. The qualifying window closes at 4:30 p.m. that day.

Voting in the Flemington election will be held November 4 from 7 a.m.-7 p.m. at De Dios Es El Poder Church of God, 2387 East Oglethorpe Highway. Early voting will be held October 14-31 at the Liberty County Historic Courthouse and the Liberty County Community Complex, 9397 E. Oglethorpe Highway in Midway.

Voting in the Midway election will take place November 4 from 7 a.m.-7 p.m. at the Liberty County Community Complex in Midway.
