Frazier to serve as superintendent for rest of school year
Debra Frazier

The search for the next Liberty County superintendent of schools is on hold for a few months.

Board members made interim superintendent Debra Frazier the leader of the school system through June 2026. Her appointment becomes official October 1.

School board members voted unanimously at their meeting Tuesday afternoon on the decision to suspend the search and name Frazier as superintendent.

Frazier was named the interim superintendent July 1, following the expiration of Dr. Franklin Perry’s contract.

A 1981 graduate of Bradwell Institute, Frazier earned a bachelor’s degree from Armstrong Atlantic University in middle grades education. She earned a master’s from Central Michigan University and a doctorate from Nova Southeastern University.

She began her career in 1984 with the Liberty County School System and retired in 2024 as the principal of Liberty County High School.

The school board had contracted with the Georgia School Boards Association to conduct a superintendent search. Of the 32 applicants for the position, 11 were interviewed. Board Chair Verdell Jones was prepared to offer a candidate as the sole finalist before other board members suggested making Frazier the superintendent for the remainder of the school year.
