A Friday afternoon mobile home fire claimed the life of a Hinesville man.
According to Hinesville Fire Department Incident Commander James Woodard, when firefighters arrived the mobile home on the 1100 block of West Oglethorpe Highway, it was fully engulfed in flames.
Two men are credited with attempting to save the man, who later died from his injuries. Brian Duffy said he was on his way to visit his mother when his son saw smoke.
Duffy and Michael Vining, whose daughter noticed the smoke, pulled the man, already suffering from burns, off his porch.
“He was in really bad shape,” Duffy said. “His trailer was on fire. The windows blew out. There was smoke coming out the trailer pretty bad.”
“When I turned in, there was a house fully engulfed in flames,” said Vining, who is a Long County Sheriff’s deputy and was off-duty.
Vining called 911 and started to provide treatment until EMS and Hinesville Fire units arrived.
“That’s just what we do,” he said.
Authorities have not yet released the identity of the victim.
