State Rep. Al Williams and Vietnam War veterans led the Purple Heart ceremony this year to honor the namesakes of the VA Clinic in Hinesville for National Purple Heart Day.

The clinic was renamed for John Gibson, Dan Gibson, William Sapp, and Frankie Smiley. The name became official May 13. The four were Liberty County natives who were killed in combat operation in Vietnam in 1968.

All 14 members of the U.S. House of Representatives from Georgia and both of Georgia’s U.S. senators signed on to legislation sponsoring the renaming.
