The Relay For Life of Liberty County kicked off its 2026 season with an energetic and inspiring team captains’ meeting held October 9 at the Country Inn and Suites in Hinesville. Eleven teams have already signed up, marking a strong start for this year’s efforts to raise funds and awareness in the fight against cancer.

Attendees enjoyed food provided by the Relay leadership team while learning about upcoming fundraising opportunities and incentives. Participants who raise $100 between September 22 and October 31 will earn a Relay blanket, while those raising $350 between November 1 and December 2 will receive a Relay rain jacket.

Fundraising ideas were shared, including “Take Out Tuesday,” a special event hosted by the Hinesville Area Board of Realtors Relay team. The event will take place October 28 from 4-8 p.m. at Panera Bread in Hinesville, with 25 percent of proceeds donated to the team when customers show the event flyer, either digitally or on paper.

Outreach leaders discussed the best way to communicate with team captains — via email or text — while the recognition committee announced they are retiring the Golden Spoon Award and are seeking suggestions for a new recognition category.

Publicity encouraged everyone to help raise awareness by sharing official Relay For Life posts on social media. Luminaries and torches are now available for purchase and serve as meaningful fundraisers. Luminaries purchased online will be included on the Relay banner displayed at the event. Organizers reminded teams to double-check spelling on all luminary orders, as corrections cannot be made after submission.

In addition, participants were invited to take part in the “Let’s Play Bingo” challenge — a fun way to stay engaged and grow participation ahead of the 2026 Relay event. The next team meeting will be held November 13.
