Local history enthusiast Phil Odom, Liberty County Schools System public relations director Genese Baker and Tax Commissioner Jamie Sharp squared off for Liberty County “Jeopardy!” as the Liberty County Chamber of Commerce celebrated the county’s birthday.

Held at Connection Church, the answers — given by Chamber CEO Leah “Alex Trebek” Poole — tested their knowledge of Liberty County history, people, places and events. There were also answers for museums, parks, restaurants and fun facts.

Liberty County was founded in February 1777.

Two of Georgia’s three signers of the Declaration of Independence — Button Gwinnett and Lyman Hall — were from Liberty County and all three had ties to the county.

Organizers also are putting together the county’s part for the celebration of the nation’s 250th birthday in 2026.
