Olivia R. Martin, a seventh grade student at Midway Middle School, has been selected to participate in Vanderbilt University’s 2026 Summer Pre-College Academy in June.
As part of Vanderbilt’s Programs for Talented Youth (PTY), the Summer Academy is a residential program that offers oneweek accelerated courses to middle and high school students from around the world that are taught by university faculty and graduate students. Selection for the Pre-College Academy is based on a student’s academic record, standardized test scores, and overall preparedness for advanced study.
Due to her strong interest and academic achievements in math and science, Martin will complete a disease-focused pharmacology course for rising seventh and eighth graders. She and her peers will examine three common medical conditions — hypertension, heart disease, and type 2 diabetes — and learn how the diseases develop, how they are diagnosed, and how different medicines target and treat them.
Martin has previously completed STEM-focused summer programs at Georgia Tech and Emory University. She is the daughter of Reginald C. Martin and Chanté Baker Martin.
