The City of Midway is preparing to celebrate a big birthday.

The city is celebrating its 100 years as a city on August 9 at Midway City Hall, with live music, bounce houses, food and more.

While Midway’s origins date back to the early days of the Georgia colony, it was not incorporated as a city until August 3, 1925.

Liberty County Chamber of Commerce president and CEO Leah Poole said the Chamber is willing to help the city with the celebration, offering to provide prize packs for the first 100 residents who stop by.

“It might be a way to increase happy engagement,” she said.

Other suggestions include planting a tree to commemorate the 100th anniversary, along with a plaque from the mayor and council, and creating a time capsule to be buried on the city hall’s grounds.

“They can open that time capsule and see what Midway was like 100 years ago,” Poole said. “It would be another way for that citizen engagement.”
