New council for Midway, Byler takes Flemington mayor seat
TSPLOST, FLOST sail to approval
Election generic

Midway City Council will swear in four new members while Flemington will have a new mayor.

Challengers Rhonda Thomas, Vernon Donovan, Annie Foskey and Janet Bryant Jones won the four Midway City Council seats. The mayor’s race will be a runoff between Stanley Brown Jr. and Malcolm Williams, who each gave up their council seat to run for mayor.

Tim Byler defeated incumbent Flemington mayor Paul Hawkins, capturing more than 58% of the votes.

Across the county, voters overwhelmingly approved renewing the TSPLOST, or transportation special purpose local option sales tax, and the FLOST, or floating local option sales tax. The FLOST proceeds will be used to reduce millage rates.
