The fall 2025 season is going to feature a new look for the Long County Blue Tide Super Smash Bros Ultimate teams. Five seniors graduated in May, so many new faces will have to step up and make an impact for the team.
In the first match of the season on Wednesday, September 24, they did just that. Splash Smash took on Cairo while Tsunami Tsmash took on Woodland. Both teams came away with victories to open the year 1-0.
Splash Smash’s match started off with Deron Cummings using his new main Hero, a character from the Dragon Quest franchise. He took on Pit from the Kid Icarus franchise and took a 2-0 victory in both games of the set.
The second set was nearly a flawless victory as he took a 3-1 lead early while taking just 19 damage. He recorded a zero death early in the game before finishing off his opponent with a second zero death to end the game and win the set 2-0.
Jason Gaye was up next using Min Min from the A.R.M.S. series of games and using her long reach to stay out of harm’s way against Mr. Game & Watch.
Gaye dropped the first game 1-0 after making a comeback and sealing a zero death to tie the game 1-1. He lost his last stock with 114 damage dealt to his opponent.
He made a play in the second game, going up 3-1 early and cruising to a 2-0 victory. He became the first Tide Smash player of the season to record a three-stock as he won the third game 3-0 to win the set 2-1 and give his team a 2-0 match lead.
Owen Stone was up next to make his debut for Splash Smash. He used Sonic to take on Luigi in the set and took an early 3-2 lead in the first game.
He made a mistake and mistimed a jump to even the game at 2-2. He ended up losing the first game 1-0 and needed to win in the second game to keep the team’s chances for a sweep victory alive.
He fell behind early in the second game 3-2 after dealing 150 damage, but he evened the score with a zero death.
Stone dealt out another 161 damage before dropping his second stock and took only 34 damage before evening the score again. He eventually fell 1-0 in a tough battle and lost the set 2-0.
He stayed on the sticks for a fourth set and took Gaye’s Game & Watch user from the second set. He dropped the first set 2-0 in a wild, offense-heavy battle.
He did not let this deter him, however, as he made a furious comeback in the second game. He went up 3-2 and eventually 2-1 with 88 damage dealt.
Stone went on to win the second game 2-0 to even the set at 1-1. This was his first victory for Splash Smash.
He fell behind in the third game 3-1 and had 110 damage dealt against him before making a wild comeback to win the set 1-0 with 158 damage dealt, taking just 48 damage from his opponent in the final three stocks.
Stone’s clutch victory gave Splash Smash a 3-1 match victory to open the year 1-0.
Tsunami Tsmash took on Woodland and looked to do something they never had: open the season undefeated.
Things started off well as Jaiden Jones got a forfeit victory in his set due to their opponent only having two team members for the day.
Divine Nunnery, a newcomer to the team, used Incineroar from Pokemon to take on King K. Rool from Donkey Kong. It was a back-and-forth game but he won on a zero death on the final stock to win the game 1-0.
He was a little more comfortable in the second game as he went on to a 2-0 victory over King K. Rool to win the set 2-0 and give his team a 2-0 match lead.
Aiden Rivers, another newcomer, was up next and took on Little Mac from the Punchout franchise by using his own King K. Rool.
Rivers’ victory was never in doubt as he went on to a 2-0 win in the first game and nearly notched a 3-0 win in the second as he moved on to another 2-0 game win.
This gave Tsunami Tsmash a 3-0 match win for their first ever 1-0 start to the season.
