The Liberty County Sheriff ’s Office is among only 160 agencies certified by the Georgia Association of Chiefs of Police out of more than 1,100 law enforcement agencies in the state. Among the certified agencies, only 24 – including the Liberty County Sheriff ’s Office – are sheriff ’s offices.
The Liberty County Sheriff ’s Office first received state certification in 2022 and completed its most recent assessment on April 18-19. Following a thorough review by the GACP Certification Committee, the agency was notified officially of its recertification on June 12.
State certification indicates that the Liberty County Sheriff ’s Office meets the professional standards and best practices set by the GACP. To keep this certification, the agency must undergo a thorough review every three years. This review includes examining agency files, records, training practices, police vehicle fleets, communication centers, and procedures for handling evidence and property. A team of trained assessors from outside law enforcement agencies evaluates all these areas.
“I’m proud of our accomplishment in obtaining and maintaining certification,” said Sheriff Will Bowman. “This achievement reflects our commitment to professionalism and service to Liberty County. It’s a collective effort that helps us meet the highest standards in law enforcement.”
The Liberty County Sheriff ’s Office Bureau of Professional Standards oversees the certification process, which is coordinated by an administrative assistant serving as the agency’s certification manager.
