The Long County Blue Tide have a Mario Kart team for the first time in two years and their first match back was certainly a challenge. They took on the Brookwood Mustangs, the state runner-up from the fall 2024 season.
The Wave Drifters, featuring freshmen Marcus Walker, Mark Chapman and Michael Riddle as well as senior and longtime player Austin Leming, were outmatched from the start.
In the first race of the four-race set, all four finished in the bottom half of the race, each finishing fifth through eighth place.
Things got a little better in the second race with Walker taking first and Leming taking third, but seventh and eighth place finishes by Chapman and Riddle kept the Drifters from closing the gab with the Mustangs much more.
Leming had a fourth-place finish in the third race before the team again finished in the bottom half of the race to close out the first set, losing 105-51.
Leming again led the way in the second set, finishing third and fourth in the first two races. However, the team did not get a finish better than fourth - Riddle in the third race - as they fell in the second 104-52 to drop the match 2-0.
