Keep Liberty Beautiful
Keep Liberty Beautiful’s Annual Beach Sweep 2025 is scheduled for Saturday, August 16. We need boat captains to volunteer their time and boats to transport volunteers to St. Catherine’s Island. The boat captains can leave and return to Halfmoon Marina or Sunbury Boat Ramp. We check in at 7 a.m. and should return by 11 a.m.
We typically require around ten boats to provide sufficient seating for our volunteers. KLB will pay the lift fees for your boat at Halfmoon Marina. We also offer all the cleanup supplies, food, drinks, and T-shirts. If you are a boat captain and want to participate or learn more information, don’t hesitate to contact KLB at (912) 880-4888. You also can sign up on this form link: https://bit.ly/4nzKlqi For cleanup volunteers, if you have yet to be on one of our annual beach sweeps on St Catherine’s Island, you are in for a treat. A beach sweep means that we will be “sweeping” any trash and debris left on the beaches by beach visitors or the waterways. We often find items that may have been tossed on the mainland ending up on the beach. We usually have a high number of volunteers for this cleanup.
It is one of the most popular cleanups we do. I cannot blame volunteers for wanting to attend because if you are willing to pick up litter, why not opt to do it on a sandy white beach! Sounds good to me!
Due to limited transportation availability, we urge interested volunteers to register as soon as possible. The time to register is now! Our registration list fills up quickly, and we book volunteers in the order we receive their requests. You can sign up at the following link: https://bit.ly/4nzKlqi. You can also contact KLB by phone at (912) 880-4888 or email klcb@libertycountyga. gov to register and find out more information!
While looking online, I found some great information from The Environmentor, The Tentree Guide to Everyday Sustainable Living. The article, 10 Benefits Of Cleaning Up Your Local Beach, outlined why it is essential to keep our coastline clean. The article pointed out that on any beach you visit, there is almost always some evidence of human impact, such as balloons, cigarette butts, and plastic pieces.
Keeping our local beaches clean helps protect marine habitats and wildlife, while fostering a deeper appreciation for the beautiful natural spaces we all share. Here are the top 10 benefits of cleaning up a local beach: 1. Protects marine animals - By removing the trash we find on the beach, we’re doing our part to ensure that marine animals are protected from harm.
2. Preserves our natural environments - Cleaning up our local beach is not just a task, it’s a shared responsibility that helps ensure that everyone, from near and far, can appreciate the beauty of your beach. It’s a community effort that we all contribute to.
3. Removes toxic chemicals from the water - Cigarette butts are the most widely littered item on our planet. They’re also one of the Keep Liberty Beautiful’s Annual Beach Sweep 2025 is scheduled for Saturday, August 16.
