Recycling is one of the easiest ways to make a daily difference for a healthy environment and a thriving community! Recycling reduces the amount of waste ending up in the limited amount of landfill space we have, which in turn reduces the need for more landfills and the associated environmental and health risks. It also minimizes the number of toxins that can leak out in landfills and possibly end up in groundwater sources, protecting our local water supply.

Recycling also makes it possible to conserve natural resources much more effectively, ensuring a sustainable future for our community. Another key aspect of recycling is that once you begin recycling, it is a straightforward process that can easily fit into your daily routine.

Recycling is simple if you start with a couple of items to collect. Then add additional items as recycling becomes a habit.

There is a misconception that recycling takes a lot of time. It does not! When recycling is set up wisely, it is as easy as tossing items in the trash can, but you have to use a different container for recycled items.

Recycling in Liberty County is made convenient with our county-operated drop-off system. We’ve found that using a recycling bag system for collection simplifies the process. As a courtesy to interested recyclers, we provide a set of three bags that can be easily hung in a pantry or on cabinet knobs, ready for use when you head out with your recycling.

To get your set of bags, attend one of our Recycle It! Fairs or reach out to us at Keep Liberty Beautiful at (912) 880-4888 or karen. bell@libertycountyga. com. This Saturday, KLB is excited to offer another opportunity for you to recycle. Our Recycle It! Fairs, held every quarter, are more than just recycling events - they foster a sense of community and shared responsibility. These fairs make recycling easier by collecting numerous household items that cannot be dropped off at local recycling dropoff centers. This quarter’s fairs are scheduled for Saturday, August 23, from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. at two convenient locations: Liberty County Community Complex 9397 East Oglethorpe in Midway and Walthourville City Hall 222 Busbee Drive in Walthourville H Here are the items we will recycle:

• Electronics and electronic accessories

• Cell phones and accessories

• CFLs and fluorescent light bulbs (4 inches or less)

• Used motor oil and antifreeze

• Paper

• Car batteries.

• Household batteries

• Printer ink and toner cartridges

• Telephone books, large sale catalogs, and books

• Household goods, clothes, shoes (gently used, please)

• Old prescription medications and over-the-counter medications (no

needles or syringes) Remember the Free Shred Day. The Shred Truck will only be at the Walthourville location from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. This is an excellent opportunity to dispose of sensitive documents and protect your privacy securely. Make sure that the papers are not wet and are metal- free. Please be in line by 12:45 p.m. The Great Southeast Pollinator Census is a citizen science project created by the University of Georgia. This project is not just for everyone to participate in, but to make a significant difference for pollinator conservation!

By participating, you’ll contribute to vital research on pollinator populations and help protect our local ecosystems.

Join KLB for our census workshop that will also include an activity table and plant giveaway! Use this link to sign up today: https://forms.gle/ hca46xLjrwdAEFaL8.

KLB will have plants to give away at the booth, Recycle It! Fairs.

In America, the current recycling rate is 36%, and I know we can increase that rate in Liberty County. We all should do our part by collecting items now that can be recycled at the Recycle It! Fairs.

Please bring a few things in and see how easy it is to become a recycler! If you have a lot of stuff stored away, you need to come and visit us this weekend!
