Keep Liberty Beautiful

With the support of Target and Infinity Garden Consulting, Keep Liberty Beautiful can provide over 200 free winter mobile garden workshops starting this weekend. On November 8, we will host a mobile garden workshop at the Farmers Natural Foods Store on Highway 196.

Receiving a grant from a company like Target for mobile gardens is important because it helps strengthen communities like Liberty County by supporting health, education, and sustainability. The grant promotes access to fresh, healthy food, especially in urban or underserved areas that may struggle to obtain fresh fruits and vegetables. Mobile gardens bring healthy food options directly to neighborhoods, helping families eat better and live healthier lives.

The Target grant with the workshop will encourage environmental awareness by teaching people of all ages how food is grown and why caring for the environment matters. The Infinity Garden Consulting company will promote recycling, composting, and responsible water use, which are core values that align with sustainability.

By working with Target, the Farmers Natural Foods Store, Infinity Garden Consulting, and Keep Liberty Beautiful, it helps build community connections that bring people together! Residents, schools, and local groups can collaborate, share gardening tips, and take pride in beautifying their community.

We plan to do these workshops throughout Liberty County to create more educational opportunities in our community. The mobile garden workshops will serve as outdoor classrooms where children and adults can learn about science, nutrition, and agriculture through hands-on activities. Applying for and receiving grants like the one we received from Target will support our local resilience. Finding funding for these projects, companies like Target invest in the long-term health and growth of the community, empowering residents to take ownership of their environment and well-being.

We can’t wait to work with Infinity Garden Consulting, whose primary goal is to educate our community about the numerous benefits of having a personal garden. They help anyone, whether they are just starting out, have some gardening experience, or consider themselves an expert. Infinity Garden is here to help everyone bring their gardening space to life.

Having a garden close to home is not just a hobby; it’s a powerful tool for health and sustainability. The benefits of a fresh vegetable garden are numerous. It provides you with direct access to nutritious food, often fresher and more nutrient-rich than store-bought produce due to shorter transport and storage times.

Growing your own vegetables is also a more sustainable practice. It lessens your dependence on industrial agriculture, which can have considerable environmental consequences. By minimizing transportation needs and reducing the use of pesticides and herbicides, particularly when opting for organic gardening, home gardening can help lower your carbon footprint.

Furthermore, a fresh vegetable garden can contribute to your food security and lead to savings on your grocery bills, especially if you grow a significant portion of your own produce.

Beyond the nutritional and environmental aspects, gardening can be an enriching and educational experience. It connects you to the natural processes of food cultivation, offers continuous learning opportunities, and can be a great source of physical activity and stress relief. The more you learn about gardening, the more you’ll appreciate the intricate balance of nature and the satisfaction of growing your food.

The next workshop is the Winter Mobile Garden Workshop, a hands-on training session on November 8, at the Farmers Natural Foods store, 754 Elma G. Miles Parkway, Hinesville, another great community partner, from 9-11 a.m. Last year, we had volunteers assemble the mobile gardens and distribute them. This will be the third time this year that we have held mobile garden workshops, and we look forward to traveling throughout Liberty County and conducting workshops where participants will learn about the process and construct their own mobile gardens.

Each participant will be provided with a five-gallon bucket, soil, plant/seeds, a water can, care instructions, a plant trolley with wheels, and plant food. You will sow your own plant and take it home. There will be raffles, and a healthy snack will be provided!
