The Bradwell Institute halls were quiet, but there was celebration for now graduate Jordan Stevens in the school’s cafeteria May 29.
Stevens signed a letter of intent with East Georgia College, capping the signings from the Tigers’ basketball senior class.
The 6-foot-2 Stevens averaged 9.1 points per game and a team-leading 8.1 rebounds per game, helping the Tigers to a 21-7 record. He also was named all-Region -AAAAA honorable mention.
“I’ve never had anybody do that,” Tigers coach Ty Randolph said of a guard being his leading rebounder.
Though he carries the size of a guard, Randolph said Stevens plays more of a post game. He also recalled first meeting Stevens.
“It’s tough when you come to a program,” Randolph said. “It was a unique transition where everybody has a certain role.”
But he also knew the level of play Stevens was going to give him and the team each game.
“He’s kind of a leader who leads with his actions,” Randolph said. “One of the things that was the most steady for me is I knew everything I was getting from Jordan.”
While Stevens’ signing comes late in the process, Randolph said he thinks East Georgia will be a good fit for Stevens.
“He wanted to go somewhere where he was wanted,” the coach said. “I think East Georgia really wants you there.”
