The Bradwell Institute Tigers ended a disappointing season with one last heartbreaking conclusion.

Christian Scott picked off Jahbarri Felix in the end zone with less than 10 seconds left, securing the Evans Knights’ 38-34 win over the Tigers in the season finale for both teams.

Evans finished at 3-7 for the year and Bradwell ended its season at 2-7.

The Knights took the lead for good in a back-and-forth affair on Brycen Gault’s 7-yard run with 20 seconds to play. Christian Scott hauled in Tripp Furgeison’s heave for a 30-yard gain to put the Evans at the BI 5-yard line with less than a minute to play.

On the ensuing kickoff, Carlito Savea picked up the bouncing kick and threw it back across the field to speedster Jacobi Pasley, who raced to the Knights 19, setting up the Tigers for a potential game-winning score.

Bradwell took a 34-31 lead with 7 minutes remaining as Marlon Torres made a sliding catch in the end zone of a Felix pass for an 11-yard touchdown grab on fourth-and-6.

Gault’s 19-yard run on the first play of the fourth quarter put the Knights in front 31-27, answering Pasley’s 41-yard catch and dash with 3:25 left in the third that gave the Tigers a 27-24 lead.

Felix connected with Pasley on an 18-yard scoring play to cap the Tigers’ opening possession of the second half. Dominic Martinez thwarted an Evans threat with a leaping interception at the Bradwell 10, but three plays later, Bryson Crewe stepped in front of a Felix pass and returned it 15 yards for a score. That score put Evans back in front 24-21.

Wade Cobb’s 1-yard run with 4:03 left in the first quarter ended the Tigers’ first drive of the night, capping an 11-play, 87-yard drive for a 7-0 lead.

Furgeison’s 2-yard keeper with 5:02 before halftime tied the score, and Matthew West threw a 13-yard touchdown pass to Scott off a reverse for a 14-7 lead with 2:13 to go.

Bradwell answered, as Felix found Savea for an 11-yard touchdown in the corner with 45 seconds remaining in the half.

Scott set up Evans at midfield with his kickoff return and a pass interference call allowed Nick Farmer to kick a 31-yard field goal for a 17-14 lead as time expired in the first half.

Evans was called for 14 accepted penalties, resulting in 105 yards, and the Tigers had 15 penalties for 117 yards.
