Highlanders start state title defense Saturday

The First Preparatory Christian Academy Highlanders are entering the GIAA boys basketball playoffs on another roll.

The Highlanders, winners of their last 12, coasted past Robert Toombs Christian Academy 68-52 Friday to claim the Region 6-A crown.

Robert McCloud had 22 points to pace the Highlanders. Brandon Betton added 18 points, Jace Reid scored 14 and Malachi Furlow had 10 points. Betton also dished out eight assists and De’vion Clark recorded six assists.

FPCA will open the Class A playoffs Saturday at noon at Macon’s Stratford Academy against the winner of the Memorial Day-Grace Christian first round game. The semifinals will be played February 25 at Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College in Tifton and the state championship is set for February 27 at Columbus State University.
