The Lakeside-Evans Panthers started an exuberant celebration as the time ran off at Olvey Field on Friday night.

The Panthers scored the final 28 points of the game and picked up their first win of the season, in their season finale, beating the Bradwell Institute Tigers 38-21.

With the loss, the third straight for the Tigers, Bradwell fell to 2-6 on the year and 2-5 in Region 1-AAAAA. Lakeside finishes its season at 1-9 and 1-7 in the region.

Bradwell took a 21-10 lead in the second quarter when Jahbarri Felix hit Jacobi Pasley for a 49-yard touchdown strike down the Panthers sideline.

But Lakeside held the Tigers to just two first downs over the first 22 minutes of the second half, spanning four Bradwell possessions.

The Panthers had a touchdown runback of the second half kickoff called back, but they went 65 yards in five plays, with quarterback John Allen Willamson covering the last yard on a quarterback sneak.

Tristan Jones’ 9-yard run with 2:08 to go in the third quarter gave Lakeside its first lead of the night. That lead grew when Andrew Cowart caught Williamson’s short pass and spun out of a tackle, as two Tigers defenders collided, and raced down the BI sideline for a 61-yard touchdown.

Matthew White’s 2-yard run with 2:20 to go in the game ended an eight-play, 38-yard drive and put the game out of reach.

Bradwell averted disaster after its first possession of the game, when a bad snap to punter Carlito Savea put the Panthers at the Tigers 2. Lakeside followed with a bad snap of its own on first down, and Dominic Martinez ended the threat with an interception.

That led to Wade Cobb’s 15-yard touchdown run and a 7-0 lead with 5:55 left in the first quarter.

The Panthers, twice converting on third down, went 65 yards in 11 plays as Jones powered in from 4 yards out.

Cameron Keeve’s first play of the night turned out to be a big one, as he took Felix’s option pitch and raced 52 yards down the sideline to put the Tigers in front 14-7.

Will Brandenburg’s 30-yard field goal with 6:59 left in the half brought the Panthers within 14-10.

Even with a 27-yard loss on the bad punt snap, the Tigers still chalked up 159 yards of offense in the first half. But they were held to 67 total yards in the second half. The Panthers put up 223 yards of offense in the second half alone, as Williamson completed 8 of 10 passes for 189 yards. He finished with 258 yards passing on 15 of 24 passing.

Bradwell finishes the regular season at home on October 31 against Evans.
