Liberty girls notch five event wins at region track meet
Best gets two firsts for Panthers boys

The Liberty County girls track and field team racked up five first-place finishes at the Region 3-AAA meet, held at Savannah High stadium.

Zy’Kira Anderson notched two of the firsts, taking the long jump at 18 feet, 1.5 inches and the triple jump at 37 feet, 3.5 inches. Riniya Roberts won the pole vault at 9 feet, Jaidyn Hayes won the discus with a best of 121-7 feet, and Kirah Smiley won the shot put at 34-8.

Hayes was second in the shot at 34-4 and Liniya Lloyd was second in the pole vault at 8 feet. The 4x100 and 4x400 meter relay teams also posted second-place finishes.

Roberts was third in the 100-meter dash, Amiyah Payne was third in the high jump and triple jump, Ariana Fields took third in the pole vault and Diamon Dillard was third in the discus. The 4x200 and 4x800 meter relay teams also captured third places.

Valeria Sanabria was fourth in the 200 and 400, Elise Bew was fourth in the 1,600-meter run, Makara Houston was fourth in the triple jump and Kirah Smiley was fourth in the discus.

Noel Best won the region title in two events, and Brandon Roberts added a first-place finish for the boys team.

Best won the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 15.61 seconds and took the 300 hurdles in 42.06. Brandon Roberts won the high jump with a best of 6 feet.

Grant Frazier had one of the Panthers’ second-place finishes with a best of 5-10 in the high jump. Jaymes Jefferson was second in the 300 hurdles at 42.62, William Buckley was second in the discus at 130-1, and the 4x200 and 4x400 meter relay teams finished second.

Tremain Toro-Carroll was third in the triple jump, and Amari Kinyua was third in the pole vault. Aaron Garcia was fourth in the pole vault, Rashaud Woods was fourth in the 400 and the 4x100 relay team took fourth.
