The Long County Blue Tide golf team had a record score during their match against the Claxton Tigers on Thursday, March 6.
Tide senior golfer Rence Skipper finished his day with a school record 34, becoming the first golfer in Blue Tide history to shoot below par. He finished with a 1-under par on the day.
Skipper has been the premier golfer since his freshman season, but now he hopes to accomplish a goal he has narrowly missed: qualifying for the state tournament.
On Monday, during an exhibition match against Richmond Hill, Skipper finished with an even par 35. This score was, at the time, the lowest score in Tide history, but because it was not an official match it did not count.
Thursday’s score, however, did. Skipper finished the day with four birdies and three bogeys in the nine-hole match.
Skipper will now work toward his next score goal of finishing at 2-under par and continuing to improve his score.
