The Long County Blue Tide baseball team is off to an undefeated start in Region 3-AAA play. They hosted the Jenkins Warriors on Thursday, March 5 and completed the sweep with a 10-0 win in five innings.
Coming off a 5-3 win over the Warriors on Tuesday, the Tide looked to make short work of the Warriors at Fulcher Field. Things got off to on a good start for the Tide defense.
Peyton Batt opened the bottom of the second with a single, and a Luke Poppell single and walk to Jehmiel Pettis loaded the bases. Dylan Lester brought home two runs with a single to left field, and Charlie Johnson’s double off the fence in left, gave the Tide a 3-0 lead.
The Tide tacked on three more runs in the fourth. Isaiah Miller drew his second walk of the game, and Braedon Chambless’ single put runners on the corners. A throwing error and a passed ball allowed two runs to cross and Poppell darted home on a pickoff attempt at second base.
Kolton Pickens opened the fourth with a double and later scored on a wild pitch. Chambless doubled to bring in Miller, who had singled, and Batt followed with a double to make the score 9-0. Kamari Coward got the Tide’s fourth double of the inning to push the lead to 10-0.
After Batt threw four scoreless innings, Dalton Lester struck out two Warriors after giving up a single and a hit batter to end the game.
With the win, the Tide move to 6-4 and 2-0 in region play. They will be back at home on Tuesday, March 10 to take on the Islands Sharks in another region series.
