Tide brings Liberty's winning streak to a halt

Long County broke open a close game with a six-run seventh inning and held on for a 12-6 win over Liberty County in a Region 3-AAA baseball game Tuesday evening.

The win snapped a 10-game winning streak for the Panthers, who had been 4-0 in the region.

The Liberty County Panthers ran their winning streak to 10 games and pushed their region record to 4-0 with a sweep of Jenkins last week.

The Panthers, 14-3, sandwiched an 11-1 win over Brantley County between the routs of the Warriors.

In three wins, Panthers pitchers combined to allow two earned runs on 10 hits over 17 innings, while striking out 13 batters and issuing just four walks.

Mikey Miller went 2-for-4 with a double, Jaden Herrington went 1-for-2 with a double and Caden Chancey was 2-for-4 with a triple and three RBIs in the 9-1 series-opening win over Jenkins. Jaden Herrington struck out four and walked one in six innings on the mound.

Herrington was 3-for-4 and knocked in four runs, Jahair Rodriguez had two doubles while going 3-for-4 with three RBIs, Miller was 2-for-3 with one RBI and Shedrick Pass was 2-for-3 with two RBIs in the series finale.

Chancey, who was 3-for-4 with three RBIs at the plate, struck out four over four innings. Pass pitched a scoreless inning.

Herrington drove in three runs, going 2-for-4, in the win over Brantley County. Glemon English and Ezzard Jemison each drove in two runs, and Pass was 2-for-3 with one RBI. Three pitchers combined to strike out three and allow one earned run in five innings.

The Panthers start a two-game set with Groves at home on March 24 and travel to Garden City on March 26.  They also play FPCA on March 30 and host the Highlanders on March 31.
