The Long County Lady Blue Tide softball team is on a hot streak now, having won their last six games. They pulled out a big victory over Class AAAA Ware County on Wednesday, August 27, winning 5-2.
In the third inning, the Gators got on the board with back-to-back doubles for a 1-0 lead. The Lady Tide answered in the bottom of the inning however.
Hollan Clark opened the inning with a single before Catherine Sikes doubled to put Clark in scoring position. Sophia Brewster doubled to put a run on the board for the Tide.
Mackenzie Crews gave the Tide the lead on a sacrifice RBI and Lana Lewis reached first on an error to bring home another run as the Tide led 3-1 going into the fourth.
Clark made the biggest play of the game, making a diving grab of a pop up to shallow left field with runners on first and third.
The Tide added runs in the fifth and sixth innings, with the first coming off a pair of Gators throwing errors that allowed Sikes to score.
The Gators cut the lead to 4-2 in the sixth. Maddi Brannen brought in Alyssa Skipper for the Tide’s final run in the bottom of the inning.
The Tide held on in the seventh to roll to their sixth straight win. With the 5-2 win over the Gators, the Lady Tide are now 8-2 and sit at number two in the state in MaxPreps’ AAA rankings.
Brewster had a good day overall as she finished with a complete game in the circle, throwing eight strikeouts and allowing five hits and just one earned run. She was 2-for-3 at the plate with one RBI.
