The Long County Blue Tide baseball team hosted the Tattnall County Warriors for a scrimmage game on Thursday, February 5 as fans got their first look at the Tide for the 2026 season in a 5-2 win.

After the team just missed hosting a state playoff game by finishing as the number 17 team in the AAA playoffs, they come into the season with high hopes.

The Warriors got the advantage early as a walk and two throwing errors led to them taking a 1-0 lead. Peyton Batt walked the first three batters he faced, but he struck out the last two batters of the inning.

Tide batters struck out five times in the first two innings. Kolton Pickens struck out two in the third before two hits gave the Warriors another run. The Tide tied the game 2-2 in the third on a hit batter, a walk and a Warrior error. Nolan Boynton stole home for the tying run.

Adrian Ellerbe struck out the side in the fourth, and Braedon Chambless fanned three batters in the fifth, bringing the Tide pitching staff’s strikeout total to 11.

After Boynton struck out two in the top of the sixth, Dalton Lester got the Tide’s first hit of the game, a single up the middle to score Luke Poppell with the go-ahead run. A fielder’s choice and a Chambless walk proceeded Jehmiel Pettis’ two-run single into left.

Charlie Johnson took the mound in the seventh as he struck out all three batters to bring the team total up to 16 for the night as the Tide took the win.

They will now look to open the regular season on the road against the New Hampstead Phoenix on Tuesday, February 10.
