Tide seniors ready to roll to their college teams

On Monday, May 12, the Long County Blue Tide hosted its second annual sports signing night. This year, even more student-athletes signed their letters of intent to continue their athletic careers at the collegiate level.

Flag football led the way with five players signing scholarships with football, boys’ soccer, and baseball each having two and girls’ wrestling, softball and track and field and cheerleading all having one to sign scholarships.

For flag football, Kelly Stokes, Abbey Tewalt, Makinzie Moody, Yuridia Sellars, and Ciara O’Brien all signed scholarships. They join class of 2024 graduate Kyleigh Sizemore as the only Tide players to sign to play at the next level.

Stokes and Moody will remain teammates as they will play at Florida Gateway College in Lake City. The Timberwolves recently won their third straight NJCAA National Championship.

Tewalt and O’Brien will remain teammates as they join Brewton Parker College in Mount Vernon. They will get in on the ground floor as the Barons start flag football next spring.

Sellars will be in on the ground floor as she signs with Lees-McRae College in Banner Elk, North Carolina. The Bobcats will start flag football next spring as well.

Kenny Pickens and Wyatt Walters join Chris Hatfield, who signed with the South Carolina Gamecocks in December, as signees for football. Pickens signed with Berry College in Mount Berry, and Walters signed with Lawrence University in Appleton, Wisconsin.

Pickens will also play baseball for the Vikings at Berry College while Creighton Rogers will join the Barons’ baseball team at Brewton Parker.

Aidan Rollins will be the fifth Blue Tide player to sign with the Barons as he will play boys’ soccer at Brewton-Parker while Chris Contreras will play soccer at Young Harris College in Young Harris.

Kaiden Boshers becomes the first Tide wrestler to sign a scholarship as she will wrestle at John Carroll University in University Heights, Ohio.

Leah Denmark continues her softball career at East Georgia State College in Swainsboro. France Smith signed to run track at Emmanuel University in Franklin Springs. Jai’Mari Marzett will cheer at Valdosta State University in Valdosta.
