With the regular season starting in just a week, DeShon Brock hopes the tape of Friday night’s scrimmage gives his team some clues about how far along they are.
The Bradwell Institute Tigers will host Bryan County and Windsor Forest in a three-way scrimmage at Olvey Field/ Hokey Jackson Stadium on Friday, starting at 7 p.m. The Tigers will take on the Bryan County Redskins first, followed by Bryan and Windsor squaring off, and Windsor and BI concluding the proceedings.
For the Tigers and Brock, they brought in four new coaches over the summer, and Brock said the summer of work was productive.
“Summer was great,” he said. “It was a lot of learning. We had new coaches we had to integrate into the system, and the kids took well to their coaching.”
Brock also was enthused with BI’s performances at padded camps and 7-on-7 competitions over the summer.
But the scrimmage is the final chance to see how close the Tigers are to being ready to play.
“I want to see us execute at a high level,” Brock said. “I want to see the defense getting after it, creating turnovers, limiting big plays. Offensively, I just want to see us execute with limited pre-snap penalties and no turnovers. I want to see a few explosive plays and see us take care of the ball.”
Bradwell visits rival Liberty County on August 15 to start the season and Brock is eager to get started.
"We’re excited about the upcoming season,” he said.
