The Jenkins Warriors took another step to securing the Region 3-AAA championship, at the expense of the Long County Blue Tide.

The Warriors scored five touchdowns in a span of 13 offensive plays and pulled away from the Tide for a 49-13 win Friday night at Savannah High Stadium.

Long County fell to 5-3 on the season and 4-3 in the region. Jenkins, 7-1 overall, improved to 7-0 in the region.

Cortney Charles’ 9-yard touchdown run with 27 seconds left in the first half pulled the Tide within 14-13. But Warriors quarterback Demetrius Holloway Jr., who threw for three scores and ran for another, found Torean Wilson on the sideline for a 51-yard scoring strike with 3 seconds left in the half. Joshua Woodley’s point after put the Warriors ahead 21-13.

Jenkins recovered a Tide fumble on Long County’s opening second half possession and took three plays to go 37 yards. Ryan Scott rumbled in from 7 yards to stretch the lead to 28-13.

Dominique Johnson’s 55-yard punt return set up another three-play scoring drive, with Scott barreling in from 4 yards out to extend the lead to 35-13.

Akeviyahn Haynes’ interception led to Holloway’s 66-yard run up the middle three plays later for a 42-13 lead with 10:27 to go in the game.

Jaylon Elliott’s 45-yard scamper on an end around, capping another three-play possession, tacked on the final points with less than 4 minutes remaining.

Jenkins needed to five plays to score on its opening drive, with Holloway finding an open Johnson for a 57-yard touchdown throw.

The Warriors went on their longest possession of the game, a seven-play drive, to go up 14-0 when Holloway found Wilson for an 18-yard touchdown pass.

Long County’s first score came on a 13-play, 80-yard march that took more than six minutes off the clock. The Tide also converted two fourth downs before Jason Familia’s 8-yard run with 1:34 to go in the first half.

Charles picked off Holloway on the next play after a holding call wiped out Holloway’s 42-yard scramble. That turnover set up Charles’ touchdown.

Familia ran for 72 yards and Tyrell Grayson added 66 on 13 carries. The Tide racked up 292 yards rushing and 14 different players had carries.

Holloway finished 5-of-8 passing for 162 yards and three touchdowns and the Warriors posted 384 yards of total offense.

Long County visits Southeast Bulloch on Friday. The Yellow Jackets are 4-4 overall and 4-3 in the region and were off last week after a 37-28 loss to Jenkins. Colby Smith has rushed for 784 yards and nine touchdowns, and Jayden Murphy has added 743 yards rushing and nine TDs for SEB.
