HPD investigating Sunday night fatal shooting
Warrant used for person of interest
Houston, Jarousha
The HPD is looking for 17-year-old Jarousha Houston in connection with a fatal shooting Sunday night.

Hinesville police is looking for a person of interest in an apparent fatal shooting Sunday night and has issued a warrant for Jarousha Jamal Houston.

According to Hinesville Police Chief Tracey Howard, officers responded just after 8 p.m. to 1300 Independence Place on reports of shots fired and of a gunshot victim.

Officers discovered the victim, identified as Alexander Jamal Johnson, 30, of Hinesville, and administered emergency life-saving efforts, Chief Howard said, but were unsuccessful.

Johnson did not live at the address but knew someone who lived there, Chief Howard said, and police are looking for that person as a potential witness.

Houston, 17, is 5-foot-7 and weighs 130 pounds. He is wanted for aggravated assault in connection with Sunday’s shooting.

The HPD’s preliminary investigation shows the shooting happened over a disagreement over music but they cannot confirm that is what led to the shooting.

“We know the two individuals knew each other,” the chief said.

Chief Howard said the shooting is considered to be an isolated incident and there is no further danger to the community. An autopsy was performed today on Johnson, who suffered apparent gunshot wounds to the chest and leg.

Houston is considered armed and dangerous. Anyone with information on his whereabouts is asked to call the HPD at (912) 368-8211.
