A Liberty County School System bus had a fire this morning after a stop at Savannah Technical College.

The fire originated in the rear wheel area after the back tire blew, school system officials said. No students were onboard and no injuries were reported. The bus driver got out of the bus safely and local fire and emergency responders were dispatched and extinguished the fire.

The Liberty County School System is coordinating with fire, safety, and transportation officials to investigate the incident. The system also will conduct safety inspections of its fleet to ensure buses are operating at the highest standards of mechanical reliability.
