Kathy Villafane and the Liberty County Board of Commissioners celebrated another Paint Liberty Pink at Tuesday’s county commission meeting.

Villafane started the Paint Liberty Pink movement to bring awareness to and prevent breast cancer after the death of her sister from breast cancer.

“I want to do something small to honor my sister,” she said. “We now have this event that is bigger than I could have imagined.”

Breast cancer is the second-leading cause of death among women, and it is estimated more than 220,000 women in the U.S. will be diagnosed with breast cancer this year.

There will be a Pink Out at the Hinesville Farmers Market on October 16 from 3-7 p.m. to help bring awareness.
