The No. 6-ranked Valdosta Wildcats flexed their formidable muscle Friday night at Bazemore-Hyder Stadium, at Bradwell Institute’s expense.

The Wildcats, ranked in the top 10 in Class 7A, rolled to a 56-13 win over the visiting Class 6A Tigers, going to 3-0 on the season while Bradwell fell to 2-1.

Valdosta has scored more than 50 points in each of its three games this season, and nearly got to that total in the first half.

Valdosta’s defense held the Tigers to 127 yards of total offense. Savea, returning to quarterback during the game, was 4 of 12 for 38 yards passing and ran for 93 yards on seven carries, including a 30-yard dash that set up Cameron Keeve’s late touchdown. Keeve, who came in with more than 320 yards rushing in two games, was held to 8 yards on four carries.

Valdosta senior quarterback Tripp Perry was 9 of 12 for 181 yards and two touchdowns, both long strikes to star receiver Jamarian Mingo.

The Wildcats opened a 21-0 lead in the first quarter, with Perry connecting with Mingo on a 65-yard bomb for a 7-0 lead. Jadon Foster capped the next drive with a 19-yard touchdown run, and standout senior Marquis Fennell adding a 17-yard TD run.

Savea’s 16-yard touchdown run midway through the second quarter got the Tigers on the board, cutting the lead to 35-6, but the Wildcats got two more TD runs from Foster and two more from Fennell, the last a 29-yard burst, to go up 49-6 at the half.

With a comfortable lead and a running second half clock, Perry found Mingo down the left sideline for a 41-yard scoring strike in the third quarter.

Mingo had 106 yards and two scores on two receptions, and Fennell added four catches for 77 yards. Foster ran 15 times for 126 yards and three TDs and Fennell added 140 yards and three scores on 13 carries.

The Wildcats, averaging over 50 points a game, racked up 537 yards of offense, with 265 coming on the ground.

Savea’s long scramble set up Keeve’s short touchdown run in the fourth quarter for Bradwell’s final tally.

Bradwell is off this week and opens Region 1-6A play against Glynn Academy on September 18 at Brunswick’s Glynn County Stadium. The Red Terrors also have an off week and posted their first win of the year Friday night, knocking off Savannah Christian 45-28.

Glynn lost its opener to Calvary Day 49-22, surrendering 29 points in the third quarter to the Cavs, and fell 42-13 to Camden. Cavs quarterback James Mobley threw for 319 yards and three touchdowns in the season-opening win, and Camden’s Xavier Collins was 11 of 12 for 250 yards and four scores against the Red Terrors.
