The Hinesville Fire Department is advising residents to stay indoors and keep all windows and doors closed.
The HFD has issued a smoke advisory and reminds residents that a burn ban is in place. Burning within the city limits is strictly prohibited.
Gov. Brian Kemp has issued a mandatory burn ban for 91 counties, including Liberty and Long, through May 22.
According to Fort Stewart officials, the Fort Stewart Forestry Branch continues to monitor and grade perimeter roads of the active wildfire in the Artillery Impact Area, which is estimated at 200 acres. This is a no plow zone because of military munitions. Previous wildfires in training area D-5 and D-7 will continue to smoke until adequate precipitation occurs.
Active wildfires in Brantley County and Clinch County are contributing to the current smoke in the cantonment area and surrounding communities. The forecasted winds over the next couple of days are southerly, so smoky conditions are expected especially in the mornings and evenings.
