The Liberty County Chamber of Commerce and Convention and Visitors Bureau helped host representatives from Hyundai Motor Group Metaplant America, LLC at Susie King Taylor Freedom Park at Jones Creek.

The visit provided Hyundai representatives with an overview of the park, its historical significance and its role as a recreational resource for Liberty County residents, military personnel and their families. The event also created an opportunity for local leaders and Hyundai representatives to discuss community connections and potential future partnerships.

“We could not be more grateful for the opportunity to meet with and collaborate with new businesses in our area. We are looking forward to an opportunity to partner with the Hyundai Motor Group in the hopes that our collaboration would serve as another means to make Liberty County one of the most beautiful counties to visit in the state of Georgia,” said Leah Poole, president and CEO of the Liberty County Chamber of Commerce and CVB.

Historian, scholar and writer Hermina Glass-Hill presented information about Susie King Taylor, the park’s namesake. Taylor escaped slavery during the Civil War and served the Union Army as a nurse and educator. After the war, she continued her work in education and later documented her wartime experiences.

Liberty County Commission Chairman Donald Lovette welcomed attendees and discussed the park’s importance to the community. Liberty County Recreation Department Director Raymond Gross provided an overview of the park’s current amenities and proposed future additions, including a fishing and crabbing pier, an amphitheater and an expanded walking trail.

Susie King Taylor Freedom Park at Jones Creek currently includes a playground, kitchen and dining area, walking trail and waterfront views. During the visit, attendees also participated in a cast-net demonstration led by Poole.
