The Liberty County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a shooting that took place just before 5 a.m. Sunday.

Maj. Joshua Heath, sheriff’s office chief of detectives, said a 19-year-old woman who lived on West Pine Street was walking home when three men began verbally harassing her. The woman ignored the men as she was walking. It’s not known if more than one man began firing at her but multiple rounds were discharged in her direction.

The woman was shot once in the arm. When the woman’s father heard the commotion, he left the house and began firing at the men, who fled.

The woman was transported to Liberty Regional Medical Center in Hinesville where she is being treated for her wound. It’s unknown if any of the assailants were injured in the gunfire.

Multiple evidence markers were visible on the ground.
