Letter to the editor: Annual Walk 4the HOMELESS another success
letter to editor new

Dear Editor,

ACOM’s Annual Walk 4the HOMELESS 2026 event was a great community event that brought several entities of our community together, such as business, service agencies, and local churches. To see the overwhelming 275-plus participants arriving on that early Saturday morning as ACOM’s board of directors and volunteers were hurrying to set up the onsite registration tables was a wonderful sight.

As the walkers and participants gathered, the atmosphere was filled with excitement and anticipation as the start time grew closer. There was so much camaraderie and fellowship as everyone gathered with the sole purpose of raising the funds needed to assist ACOM’s several homeless initiatives and services, bring a greater awareness of the plight of homelessness within our community. The participants represented every age and stage of life, reminding us that the call to serve is for all generations. The youngest walkers joyfully took on the challenge with bright smiles and determination.

On the other end of the spectrum, we were deeply inspired by our oldest walker, age 79, whose presence reminded us that compassion and care for others has no age limit — each step, whether small or seasoned, was a powerful statement of love in action.

We are humbled by the commitment of every individual, family, volunteer, business, and sponsor who embraced our Walk 4the Homeless event and made a wholehearted effort to support it.

They demonstrated that when a community comes together, barriers are broken, and lives are uplifted.

We want to thank our corporate sponsors: Neighborhood Walmart (Hinesville and Allenhurst), State Farm Insurance, VIP Printing, the Liberty County Chamber of Commerce, Huey Magoo Tenders, Townsend Family Dental, City of Riceboro, Sonic Restaurant and ATM Photography. We dare not leave out the numerous volunteers who worked tirelessly in the setup and manning of the Walk 4the HOMELESS water stations.

To the various teams who registered, walked, and donated...thank you for walking with us, standing with us, and believing with us that together we can provide the resources needed to assist our homeless community and families in need. What’s next, you ask? The 10th Celebration of ACOM’s Annual Season of HOPE 2026 Giveaway. This is where ACOM has the unique opportunity to bless homeless families and families in need during this Christmas Season. More information on registration is coming soon.
